Evolution vs. Electrons, Jesus vs. Julius April 5, 2008

I read once that there is more research oriented support for evolution than there is for the existence of electrons, though having not researched that statistic to any estimable extent, I’ll not say it’s true just yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were. However, even in the face of such a fact it seems to be a null point. Does it really matter how much support there is for something when it is so simply negated by the amount of evidence that stands to counter it? Something isn’t shown to be true only by how much evidence there may be for it but by how well it stands up to the reasonable, scientific interrogation. The whole scientific method still needs to be in process here! In the case of the electron, there has been no significant evidence accumulated against the particle’s presence in nature. That doesn’t prove they exist, of course, only that they haven’t been shown not to exist, which really only leaves us at a dead end… again.

Trouble is, the same kind of logic comes from the other side as well. Christians are eager to point out that there is more evidence for the Biblical account of Jesus’ life than there is to substantiate that Julius Caesar even lived, although no one’s arguing the latter fact. This also seems to be dead in the water. Since we can’t deduce anything useful from it, why do we keep hearing it? Why, oh why, oh why? This isn’t the first time I’ve wondered if Christians hear what they themselves are saying… listen, think and speak, in that order.

I have been out of school for a while – and biology was never my strong point. Do you mind if you start posting one by one the evidence for evolution? (Like one a week or so)

P.S. Why stupid Christians and not stupid Jews or Muslims?
You know – there are orthodox Jews who do not believe in evolution, and the same goes for most Muslims :)

That’s something I definitely intend to do, both for old and young earth Creationism/Intelligent design, evolution and whatever other beliefs come up in he process. Thanks for expressing interest! Also, as to evidence for evolution, especially, perhaps commenters can help by suggesting links to other blogs.
