Enter Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron with… er… a banana. But wait! Look closely now. This Musacid is more than just the grocery store variety of your tropical yellow fruit: this banana is “The Athiest’s Nightmare!”
….Or so Ray Comfort would like you to think. After all, is not the banana so perfectly crafted to the tactile elements of human perception? And indeed it is, with a non-slip surface, perforated wrapper, and a special tab for easy opening, the banana is no less than the work of supernatural designer? No?
Unfortunately science seems to be detrimental to his example. You see, Ray’s banana isn’t so much of a testimony to God’s handicraft as he would like: indeed the common yellow (“Cavendish”) banana cultivar (a.k.a. “The Atheist’s Nightmare”), testifies only to the fact of artificial selection having bred it from the originally rough and heavily-seeded wild banana, into the hybridized, grocery store variety. A simple Wikipedia search would have availed him much on the matter, as well as a little fore-thought.
Moreover, what of the rest of fruit-kind? Pineapples are rather lacking in all the amenities Ray mentions. Where is the easy open tab and perforated wrapper? And what of it fitting comfortably in my hand?
Just as a piece of advice: don’t play with your food, Ray, and don’t play with science either. If you’re willing to invest the time and research necessary to produce viable arguments, fine. But until then, stop making a mockery out of creationists. Stop polluting the blogosphere with your psuedo-scientific nonsense. As I’ve said before, I respect you as an evangelist, but as far as science -in the opinion of this blogger- you remain no more than a sounding brass and a clanging cymbal.

Great …………………..concept.
[...] As I mentioned before, let’s make this an open letter to Ray Comfort. Pass it on, discuss it it the comments. Whatever it takes. I’ll be contacting Ray about this but that doesn’t mean you can’t too. Read his blog here, so please you. Other posts my myself addressing issues with his ministry include “Gagging on Comfort Food” and “Summa Contra Banana”. [...]
I think they have been humiliated by this and no longer use it — haven’t for months. (Could be wrong. I don’t watch them that closely.) Stunning, as these folks have no shame over the ‘croc-o-duck’ and other nonsense.
Thanks for posting this. I’m surprised how few Christians will criticize other Christians over obvious errors or just plain bad ideas (as opposed to religious beliefs with real-world support), so any post pointing out one of this type of thing is good to see.
